Details of Infinity Stairs, 2020

Digital Rendering/Revit/Enscape/Photoshop

The experience of light and shadow in any form or space has been my primary focus. A white canvas’s blank surface can be filled with a moment captured through what I see and feel.

The human experience of exposure to the light, shadows, and objects creates different forms. Visual experiences often go through the process of compiling memories. These memories pile up and are pulled out at the right time onto a canvas. Creating the right moment is the decision of the artist. This action starts with journaling and making several layers on the surface and through overlapping various materials and methods.

Over the years, I have explored art and design, from traditional methods to digital ones, using computer programs as tools. In earlier work, I often included both methods and combined them by collaging old pictures, maps, coffee filters, tea dyes, sewing fabrics, and digital images and rearranging and reorganizing them as multi-layered surfaces.

Using materials to capture movement and moments of life creates a special space. I most recently felt this emotion in one of my theater stage designs. The actors on the stage were ready for the curtains to open. The audience is silent. Suddenly, the light turned on and the actors began singing and dancing. The stage transformed into a canvas filled with stories and memories, layered by the actors, music, props and sets. That space helps me share my inner peace, sparking emotion and transporting others into a new world, ultimately the reason why I create.
